Lauren Mobile Studio Portraits – J B Davies Photography – Hamilton Portrait Photography

It’s always nice to get some photography practice in. Keeps me on my game and also allows me to try new things.  Today I had Lauren, my friend’s daughter, over for a portrait session in my Home Studio.

Training is something all photographers should consider.  Without training, any bad habits we pick up will never be corrected and any recurring errors we make will never be noted.  Also our photography will never progress to the next level.  There are always ways to make things better and having taken up a continuous development course, with multi award-winning photographer Damian McGillicuddy, it really has made me think more about my photography and style.  Todays session was a mix of homework (for my next training session) and trying out some new equipment that I’d bought some time ago – namely coloured gels!

I bought the gels a while ago and I’ve not really had the chance to use them yet – but so wish I had!  The images from todays session turned out fantastic (well I think so) and shows that the development training is already paying dividends in the quality of work I’m producing.

Here are a few favourites from todays session. I hope you like them.

Angela - Fantastic pictures Jim. Lauren really enjoyed her day, which I think you can tell with the results. Another job well done. Xx

Jim Davies - Hi Angela, thank you. It’s great to make images with a beautiful subject who is comfortable in front of the camera. I will not be leaving it so long this time to take more :) Say thanks again to Lauren for me. Regards Jim x

Debbie & Andrew Wedding at Balbirnie House Hotel, Glenrothes – J B Davies Photography – Fife Wedding Photographer

Debbie & Andrew were married at the stunning Grade A listed Georgian country mansion-house that is Balbirnie House Hotel in Glenrothes, Fife. They chose their location well and this is a truly beautiful estate and a perfect location for their wedding.  The building itself is beautiful both inside and out and the grounds are just stunning.

Debbie and Andrew’s wedding was a very moving affair. Their carefully thought out words of love to each other had everyone in tears during the ceremony and afterwards friends and family enjoyed a brilliant reception.

Quite often I shoot weddings with my friend Andy Donald and on that day I was helping Andy.  He was with the bride pre-wedding whilst I took images of the boys.  Here’s a few of my favourites from the day.

Lynsey & Friends – Lifestyle Photography, J B Davies Photography – Hamilton

My niece and her friends (Skye, Rachel & Eilidh) went out in the summer last year to a park in the centre of Hamilton, Lanarkshire to have a play around and pose for the camera a bit.  Rather than go to the trouble of posing for a studio portrait session they wanted images that were a little more natural and of them as a group.  So off we headed out to do a Lifestyle Photography session in Hamilton. They all had a great time and although shy to start they got used to the camera after a while and almost forgot it was there!  They all loved all the images which is always nice to knowicon smile Lynsey & Friends Lifestyle Photography, J B Davies Photography Hamilton

Donna & John Wedding, Glenbervie House Hotel, Stirlingshire – Wedding Photographer J B Davies

Donna & John were married on 29th April 2011 – the same day as Kate Middleton & Prince William.  John is actually my friend’s son and I have  known him since he was a very young lad growing up in Hamilton.   I was immensely proud that they chose me to record their day and  just want to thank them for giving me the opportunity to provide their wedding photography.

Donna & John were married in Hamilton Old Parish Church and the reception was held at the fantastic 5 star venue that is Glenbervie House Hotel in Stirlingshire.  It was a perfect location for their wedding.   The bride & groom made a very beautiful couple. Donna was stunning in her beautiful dress and John, resplendent in his kilt.  Friends and family alike had an amazing time and it really was just a perfect day!

Here’s a few of my wedding favourites.

BluePrint Band Photography at Whistle Binkies, Edinburgh

On Tuesday night I had the pleasure of taking some images of a band called BluePrint who were playing at Whistle Binkies in Edinburgh. My friend, and fellow Wedding Photographer, Andy Donald had asked if I could take a few shots for them and I was delighted to. BluePrint is a rock/blues band and I have to say was mightily impressed by them. It was a very enjoyable evening doing some band photography for a little change and I got a couple of images for them I liked. I was actually surprised by how busy Edinburgh was for a Tuesday (school) night!  Or maybe I’m just getting old!

You can browse through a few here.

Brothers Portraits – Lanarkshire Portrait Photographer

Making portraits image is always a challenge.  Setting the lights right and making the clients feel at ease is actually quite tough!  But these three brothers seemed initially to feel quite uncomfortable in front of the camera – a very normal reaction.  But within 10 minutes they were enjoying the flow as I took  a number of images of each of them which they thought looked great!

These were being taken as a present for my work mate’s friend and the final framed prints of all three looked really fantastic.

Here’s a few from the session.

Emma & Alan Wedding – Cornhill House Hotel, Biggar

Emma & Alan

Emma & Alan were married in the Kirkmuirhill Parish Church back in May.  After a very beautiful service, it was then on to the stunning Cornhill House Hotel near Biggar.

I actually have a bit of an affinity with this property.  In a previous life a few years ago, I was a trainee surveyor with South Lanarkshire Council and I ended up responsible for the marketing and sale of this former Nursing Home and surrounding land.  It was really great going back to see the building in such beautiful condition which is testament to the owners’ hard work and enthusiasm.

Emma and Alan wanted a wedding full of smiles and that is exactly what they got.  Here’s a few images from their wedding.

Jennifer & Brian Wedding, Keavil House Hotel, Fife

Jennifer & Brian

These guys are the most amazing couple who are full of love, life and happiness and their wedding at the beautiful Keavil House Hotel, in Crossford in Fife was an absolute blast!  It was a typical Autumn October day but one everyone will remember for a very long time. I was immensely honoured to be selected as their photographer not least because I was already a friend of the family! No added pressure!

Their day went without a hitch and I was delighted to  have recorded and amazing day. Once they finally selected their images they chose to display their images in a stunning Graphistudio album.

Here is a small selection of the images from their day in the layout they chose for their album.
